Vertical and Horizontal frames - part 3

Subject 6: Val on skis
The standing figure on the right is balanced by the mountain in the background on the left. The visual elements are approximately on the thirds.
The background mountains are more central. The extension of the frame to left and right do not add significant interest to the picture. The vertical image works better for this subject.
Subject 7: Church with red cupola
The church in right foreground stands out against the mountainside behind. The sunlight on the mountain in the upper right is also a strong visual element and the eye moves back and forth between the two areas.
In this format, the mountain takes up a larger proportion of the picture and the church appears correspondingly smaller and is somewhat overpowered. The buildings on lower left are not particularly interesting. I feel that the vertical format is a stronger image and a simpler composition.
Subject 8: Meandering stream
The stream leads the eye through the picture from bottom left across to the right and then into middle distance on left again. The line of houses stands out well against the dark trees behind.
The same visual elements are included in the frame. The meandering stream and village houses appear more dramatic in this horizontal composition.
